Description:
This slide deck supports a hands-on educational presentation that introduces vertical gardening as a model for sustainable agriculture and classroom-based experiential learning. The presentation begins with introductions of the presenters and an overview of the project, then leading into the context for how vertical gardening connects to agricultural literacy, sustainability, and real-world food systems.

The goals of the presentation are clearly outlined, focusing on student engagement, problem-solving, and understanding how innovative growing systems address space, resource, and environmental challenges. The presentation sets the stage for learning by helping students connect plant growth and food production to their everyday experiences.

A core component of the slide deck is an engineering design challenge that engages participants in designing and evaluating vertical gardening systems and in building a model from provided materials. In the lesson, students explore key factors such as light, water, nutrients, and plant needs while applying scientific and engineering practices through collaboration and hands-on investigation.

The presentation also introduces supporting curriculum resources. It concludes by giving educators time to explore questions they need answered before they are ready to implement the curriculum in their own classrooms.
