About
Dr. Jones received his PhD in Environmental Engineering and Science from the Colorado School of Mines where he studied the microbial ecology of constructed wetlands to treat large volumes of municipal wastewater for nitrogen and organic pollutants such as pharmaceuticals. During his graduate career, he realized that the bulk of the nitrogen and organic pollutants are a result of modern unsustainable farming practices. Zack wants to uses his expertise in microbial ecology and microbiology to better explain the benefits of sustainable farming practices such as vermicomposting to spread their adoption and remove the source of the pollution problem. Throughout his graduate career he has become an expert at education and outreach to children and adults by attending outreach events such as the Orange County Children’s Water Festival, the Bechtel Teachers workshop, and local elementary school math and science nights.
