Summary:
Farms with sandy soils experience more wind erosion, low moisture concentration, and high potential for groundwater contamination than operations with other soil types. This soil structure lowers cropland productivity.
Objective: To introduce a more sustainable agricultural system to land with sandy soil to retain its productivity.
The producer established a windbreak with a grass/legume groundcover between the rows of trees. On part of the land, she installed a woodlot agroforestry project to serve as an alternative income source and wildlife habitat.
