Transitioning to Sustainable and Organic Grain and Livestock Production Systems: On-Farm Training for Extension Agents (CES) and NRCS Personnel

Summary

Objectives of this project include:

1) To provide training to Extension agents and NRCS personnel on how to assist interested grain and livestock producers in transitioning from conventional to sustainable/organic production.

2) To provide resource materials (books, slides and pamphlets) to trainees that will assist Extension agents and NRCS personnel in disseminating information from their respective county offices.

To meet the increased demand for information on alternatives to conventional production practices, the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association (OEFFA) proposes to hold a series of sustainable and organic grain and livestock production systems workshops.

The workshops will be held on farms of growers who have successfully completed conversion to organic production. Presentations will be made by successful sustainable and organic producers, with assistance from faculty/researchers from the Ohio State University (OSU). The trainees will be given resource materials, collaboratively developed by OEFFA, Innovative Farmers of Ohio (IFO) and OSU as the result of a new Organic Research Initiative.
