A Video on Ecological Sweet Corn Production

Summary

Summary:
This project will produce an hour-long, television-quality video documenting ecological production practices used by sweet corn growers in the Northeast. Farmers will explain why and how they use practices that optimize or avoid the need for insecticides, herbicides and nitrogen fertilizer. Such practices have been developed and promoted by SARE over the years, including monitoring for insect pests, using microbial insecticides, growing cover crops, using the pre-sidedress nitrogen test and mechanical cultivation of weeds.

Objective
Provide extension and other agricultural educators with a tool that enhances their ability to promote the adoption of ecological production practices for sweet corn.

Approved March 1999.
