Four-Season Vegetable Production Utilizing High Tunnels, Floating Row Cover, and a Compost Heat Exchanger.

Summary

The hoophouse was successfully constructed on site in Early October of 2011.

Cover crops were seeded around the perimeter to help prevent erosion.

Cash crops of spinach, lettuce, turnips, and arugula were seeded in four beds inside the hoophouse in mid October.

Wire hoops were used to support floating row covers for the crops.

It seemed this time of year was extremely blustery and I finally installed the plastic greenhouse cover on the morning of December 2nd.

Unfortunately, the hoophouse was constructed in a vulnerable location and the fabric end walls were not able to withstand the wind load.

In mid winter 2012 the hoophouse plastic was ripped apart by a storm.

The metal frame structure remained standing and in repairable condition.

Objectives/Performance Targets

Hoop house was constructed and crops seeded successfully.
