Summary

A directory of organic operations is an important resource for farmers. It allows producers to find production advice and consumers to find market availability information quickly and easily.

Objective: To strengthen the connections between sustainable farmers and potential customers by creating a directory of such farmers in our south central Minnesota Sustainable Farming Association (SFA).

The producer association printed a directory of the 18 members from the area SFA. Each page features one farm, which includes a family photo and product description.

A directory was sent with a promotional letter to churches, extension offices, libraries, chambers of commerce, newspapers, food cooperatives, locally owned restaurants, Land Stewardship Project, Clean Water Action, Mankato Area Environmentalists and other community organizations. The letter explained why people should buy sustainably grown food products.

Results: Nearly 800 directories were distributed. The impact on sales has yet to be determined.
