Summary
Few off-farm children and adults know about agriculture or the origin of their food. Sustainable farms could serve as sites of school visits, educational projects and research.
Objective: To organize an educational, scientific and demonstrative sustainable agricultural operation.
The producer converted a 144-acre farm near the restored, historic Golden Windmill grain mill in Illinois to allow the public to view the production and processing of grain.
Results: The producer formed a 12-member advisory board, which represents federal, state and not-for-profit organizations. He also developed a field day presentation to promote his project to future sponsors.
