    Proposal summary:

Nematodes, especially root lesion nematodes and dagger nematodes, pose a serious threat to the success of strawberry and raspberry plantings. The current practice to deal with this problem is chemically intensive fumigation prior to planting recent research indicates that a cover crop of marigolds and/or sudan grass of certain cultivators can suppress nematode populations as effectively as chemical fumigation. We want to use such cover crops on our intended 1995 planting sites in lieu of fumigation.
