Proposal abstract:
Florida Activities for 2025 will build upon the basic framework for the model state program. Planned activities include integrating the results of SARE funded research and Extension activities, and other relevant research. Representatives of nonprofit organizations, representatives of state and federal government agencies, and farmer representatives will utilize this information as a resource to create educational programs as well as educate themselves. To fulfil the priorities and objectives of our program, our training funds will be used to address programs in three subject matter areas. (1) New and emerging solutions for Florida agriculture production, (2) Advancing Extension capacity in sustainable agriculture and (3) Entrepreneurial innovation in sustainable agriculture.
Our expected outcomes are that (1) Farmers, ranchers, extension agents, and nonprofit leaders will participate in regional and national programs in sustainable agriculture and apply the lessons learned in their own programming. (2) At least two of the state wide extension priority teams will include information and resources about sustainable agriculture and SARE in their professional development training programs and Extension programming. (3) Through SARE, farmers, ranchers, Extension Agents, and nonprofit organizations will identify opportunities for the development, outreach, and research of alternative crops and enterprises.(4) Extension Agents, farmers, ranchers, and nonprofit organizations will collaborate with each other on issues pertaining to sustainable agriculture.
Project objectives from proposal:
Similar to the 2023-2024 objectives we will continue to foster the partnership between Florida A&M University, and the University of Florida and the extension programs at both institutions. We will collaborate on projects and outreach events.
Focus outreach and educational activities on farms and communities with limited resources as well as minority and women farmers in an effort to address the needs of these demographics and increase the viability of the communities that they live in and serve.
Work with extension agents in these communities to develop and provide workshops to address issues both agricultural and social faced by the communities.
Continue to work with organizations active in the food system such as those in post-production and post-farm gate elements of the food system in Florida communities.
