Proposal abstract:
North Carolina University in partnership with The North Carolina Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NC SARE) program promotes ongoing training for sustainable agriculture professionals by providing travel scholarship to attended trainings and workshops. This includes North Carolina extension agents, mentor farmers, NGO's, and other government agencies working to support and advance sustainable farming practices in North Carolina.
NC SARE will work with multiple conference organizers to promote scholarship support for appropriate attendees as well as provide for enhanced hands on workshops or guest speakers. The scholarships aim to support professionals attending a range of educational training to expand their knowledge base to support farmers/growers/producers in an ever changing climate. Applications can be made for opportunities both in-state and out of state that align with that professional's region, county needs, available resources and expertise level.
Training opportunities anticipated, but not limited to include:
Organic Livestock and Commodities Conference
Organic Growers School Conference
NC Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Annual Meeting
NC Agrotourism Conference
Project objectives from proposal:
We will offer travel support to enable Extension agents and other sustainable agriculture professionals to participate in key training opportunities, strengthening their capacity to better serve their communities. This year, we are prioritizing efforts in western North Carolina, where many communities continue to recover from devastating impacts. We are partnering with the Organic Growers School in western North Carolina and also supporting the Southern Cover Crops Conference, the NC Extension Agents Family and Consumer Sciences Conference, and the Carolina Farm Stewardship Conference.
